ROAD RACING
Road racing is easily accessible almost year round,
although the bulk of events are between March and September. The majority of
events are sanctioned by British Cycling (BC) and recognised by the world
governing body, the Union Cyclist International (UCI) and conform to its
regulations. The League of Veteran Cyclists and The League International also
run events in the UK.
Road races are run on a category system, fourth category for beginners through
third, second, first, and elite. Riders move up the categories by winning points
that are awarded according to their finishing position in a race. The longer the
race the more points are awarded.
